If you are a digital marketer, knowing the difference between White Hat Seo and Black Hat SEO is a must.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization is a Digital Marketing practice of growing a blog or website traffic organically. This will help your blog to rank better and drive traffic from search engines, such as Google or Bing.

Although there are a lot of techniques that can be used to improve your SEO, not all of them follow the search engine guidelines.

White Hat SEO vs Black Hat SEO

White Hat SEO

White Hat SEO is the practice that is following the guidelines of search engines.

One of the main characteristics of White Hat SEO, as opposed to Black Hat SEO, is that it is meant for humans readers.

This means that the content, although optimized for search engines,  is meant to target and to offer value to humans, as opposed to search engines only.

White Hat SEO techniques include:

  • Keyword optimization
  • Valuable content (2,000+ words articles)
  • Quality link building
  • Prioritizing user experience

Black Hat SEO

Black Hat SEO refers to aggressive SEO techniques, which do not follow the search engines guidelines such as Google or Bing. Black Hat SEO is penalized by search engines and can even get your blog or website shut down if you use these techniques.

Black Hat SEO is meant to trick search engines, not providing any value to the end-user.

Some of these techniques include:

  • Keyword stuffing
  • Poor quality content
  • Paid links
  • Blog comment spam

Why you should avoid using Black Hat SEO techniques

Search engines are becoming better and better at discovering these techniques.

While Black Hat SEO techniques can, indeed, help you rank faster, the risk of having your blog or website shut down is just not worth it.

Using White Hat SEO techniques, although takes longer, will definitely help your blog rank over time, while also enabling you to acquire a loyal audience and happy visitors/readers.

When you provide value to your readers they will help your SEO by sharing your content.
