You should always start by greeting the interviewer and the greeting should reflect how the rapport was made during the interview.
If you addressed your interviewer with “Mr.”, “Mrs.” or “Ms.”, you should start the thank you email the same, followed by their last name.
If the interviewer was close to your age and you had a friendly rapport, then addressing the interviewer by their first name is absolutely fine.
Depending on the above, you should always start your email with “Dear Mr. Smith” or “Dear John”.
Given that this is a follow-up email after an interview, you should begin by thanking the interviewer for their time and expressing your pleasure of meeting him or her.
Post Interview Email Body
“Thank you for your time yesterday/today. It was a pleasure meeting you and learning more about the Account Executive role with ABC company.”
After the opening, you then proceed to a short recap of the meeting, where you will also reaffirm your interest in working there.
“I enjoyed knowing more about the company’s future plans and expectations and, as I mentioned during the job interview, this opportunity fits my skills set and I’m sure I would perform very well, should I be selected.”
This is very straight to the point without sounding needy and reminds the interviewer why you are a good fit.
At the end of the thank you email, you should always express your availability to be contacted should the interviewer need more information, thank them again, and also that you are looking forward to hearing from them.
“I look forward to hearing from you regarding the next steps. In the meantime, should you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

What is Better: Thank You Email or Thank You Letter After an Interview?
While some “experts” still recommend sending letters, I advise against sending a letter of thanks after a job interview because you might come across as very needy.
While you should express interest in the position that you interviewed for, there’s a fine line between wanting the job and being desperate to get it.
You don’t want to send that message and that is why I always recommend sending an email.

When to Send an Interview Thank You Email
The best time to send a thank you email after interview is within 24 hours after the job interview.
You should always send the email during working hours.
If your job interview took place on a Friday, it’s best to wait until Monday, as it would refresh the interviewer’s memory about meeting you.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Writing a Thank You Email
While fairly simple to write, there are so many common mistakes that candidates make when sending a thank you email after an interview. Make sure to avoid the following mistakes:
- Grammar or spelling mistakes
- Unprofessional email address
- Sending the email at odd hours or after more than 48hours (the only exception is the weekend)
- Not including a good subject line
- Not personalizing your email
- Making the email too long
